The Path Series Collection

The Path series is a collection of six 4 x 12” pen and ink drawings showcasing various vertical landscapes with imagery set on the wooded trails of Pennsylvania. About Ben LaDieu

Ben LaDieu is an artist hailing from the city of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in the United States. Born on September 26th,1975 in Hagerstown, Maryland, his family moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania when he was a small child where he lived until graduating from high school.

His formative years were full of excitement, hobbies and sports including: gymnastics, soccer, wrestling, baseball, biking, hiking, camping, making home movies with his friends, and exploring his neighborhood. This also included artistic endeavors mostly focusing on drawing while later on taking art and drawing classes. Seeing his talent shine through, he decided that his senior year of high school would be spent heavily focusing on art classes to build up his resume for art school, with the result in winning a scholastic art award for his high school portfolio. He was then accepted into the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland where he graduated with a BFA in General Fine Arts. It was in college that his artwork really started to excel, especially with his senior thesis drawing project, focusing on urban landscapes.

Since he can remember, Ben has been drawing fantasy, sci-fi and horror related artwork. To this day, he continues to delve into these realms for inspiration. As he matured in his craft, the technical side of doing art started to matter more and he became more focused on fine tuning his art aesthetic and skill. There is always something beyond drawing just a flower and a vase, he wanted to express emotions through his work.

Moving into adulthood, Ben worked non-art related jobs and sometimes did art in his spare time. In 2007 he formed a DJ promotional group called Braptizm and from 2016 to 2019 his group threw a series of music events where he used a pen and ink drawing for each flier design. These were well received and he started to really hone his pen and ink drawing skills. Also during this time, Ben drew pen and ink drawings for 3 vinyl releases from a dubstep music label called Trusik based out of the UK and a poster for the Satellite Ranch Music & Arts Festival.

Ben continued to draw with pen and ink finishing a variety of work and soon took to drawing tree roots. These drawings took inspiration from HP Lovecraft, monsters and horror, where looking at these roots, monsters appeared to twist and turn, showing the vague reference of a fantastic creature. After the Roots series, he broadened his focus into drawing beyond individual trees into wooded landscapes.

Recently, Ben has won quite a few awards and has shown his work at some prestigious art exhibitions.

Right now Ben is focused on the aesthetics of trees and rocks within wooded landscapes. A fan of hiking, Ben wants to express his love of the forest through his passion of seeing nature's composition in real life and expressing that through the paper in his expressive and emotional way. Each work on its own presents another world of his making.
