I NEED fine strokes.
I finished up a new piece of art this past week. I am pretty satisfied with it however my “own worst critic” mentality always finds the flaws in my work so I am constantly striving to improve upon what I have done. I think I have figured out that for the size and detail quality of my work I NEED to use the smallest pen quills I can get. I think part of the reason that I was so critical of my work in the past was the pen strokes and my inability to provide different values of shading the way I wanted to. things would just turn into a big midrange mess and I struggled to move parts into the foreground and push other things into the background. I started off working with a larger pen stroke with this piece and immediately felt the frustrations I felt with my previous work. I jumped to my finest pen quill and noticed a drastic difference in the quality of what I was doing. I think to fit my drawing style I NEED that fine quill. So I have learned something valuable here and will continue to work almost strictly in fine strokes. In the future I hope I can learn to bring in larger strokes for certain parts of my work, but for now I think this is where I will be.
In other news my Artwork: “Seafood and Eat” was posted on the flyer for the Strange Figurations show at the Limnar Gallery in Hudson, NY. Check it out!
